Crossing Jordan is a thrilling and suspenseful crime drama television series which premiered on NBC on September 24, 2001. Created by Tim Kring, the series is set in Boston and follows the lives of a team of medical examiners who routinely perform autopsies in order to help solve homicides. The plot of Crossing Jordan revolves around the character of Dr. Jordan Cavanaugh, played by Jill Hennessy, a forensic pathologist who works for the Massachusetts Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The other of the team include Dr. Nigel Townsend, played by Steve Valentine, a British medical examiner who is also an accomplished entomologist and helps with time of death determinations; Lily Lebowski, played by Kathryn Hahn, a criminalist who specializes in DNA analysis; Bug, played by Ravi Kapoor, a forensic entomologist who helps with the decomposition of the body; and Woody Hoyt, played by Jerry O'Connell, a former cop who is now a detective with the Boston Police Department and helps the team with their investigations.
Throughout the series, the team tackles a wide range of cases, from simple deaths that they soon discover were not accidents, to complex serial killer investigations. The show's episodes usually begin with a dead body arriving in the morgue, which leads to the team piecing together the events that led to the person's death.
