Anna Eleanor Roosevelt was born on October 11, 1884 in New York City. In 1905, she married fifth cousin, Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Eleanor was a dynamic woman who knew there was a fulfilling life for Franklin after he was stricken with polio in 1921.
Eleanor had huge heart and was one of our most outstanding First Ladies. She was the first First Lady to face a congressional committee in order to improve conditions for the aged. She was the first active First Lady, wanting to be in the middle of everything. She wanted to help the poor,sick, and disabled.
