Watch Why Shoot the Teacher?

This Canadian comedy drama enjoyed great commercial success during the year of its release. The movie, shot entirely in a farming village, recounts the unexpected hardships an idealistic young urban teacher named Max Brown encounters during 1935, when he must relocate to the basement of a one room teacherage in the backwoods in order to obtain his first professional position. He soon discovers that cultural barriers separate him from other people in the tiny community. The plot unfolds as Max struggles to teach academic subjects to his apathetic pupils.
