Watch Generation Gap

Generation Gap is an unscripted comedy quiz show hosted by actress Kelly Ripa that premiered on ABC in July 2022. The show pits teams of seniors against teams of juniors in a game testing their knowledge of pop culture across different generations. Each episode features two multi-generational teams, with one team made up of seniors aged 70 and up and the other team consisting of juniors under age 30. The senior and junior teams go head to head in challenges testing their knowledge of everything from music and movies to fads and viral trends from different decades.

The show is structured as a quiz game with several rounds. In each round, the junior and senior teams hear a series of pop culture clues from a certain decade like the 1960s or 1990s. It could be lyrics from a hit song, a famous movie quote, or a description of a cultural phenomenon. Teams have to guess the pop culture reference. If the clue is from a generation closer to their own, they should have the edge in getting the right answer.

Points are awarded for correct answers, with more difficult clues earning more points if identified correctly. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins. Between rounds, the show often features funny intergenerational exchanges as the seniors and juniors get to know each other and react to their lack of knowledge about distant decades.
