Wait, My Youth is a Chinese drama that follows the story of four high school friends who reunite ten years after they have graduated. The show is set in the bustling city of Shanghai, and tells a captivating tale of heartbreak, friendship and romance. The story of Wait, My Youth revolves around Chen Jingjing (Yiqin Zhao) and her three close friends - Wang Ziyang (Li Junting), Liang Xiaoyan (Jiaqi Li), and Zhang Wei (Yinghao Liu). The four of them were inseparable in high school, but as they grew up, they lost touch and went their separate ways.
As fate would have it, Chen Jingjing and Wang Ziyang end up working for the same company, and their paths cross once again. However, things aren't as simple as they seem. Chen Jingjing is still reeling from a heartbreak that happened years ago, and is a completely different person from the carefree girl she once was in high school. Meanwhile, Wang Ziyang has climbed the corporate ladder and is now a successful businessman, but he's still nursing feelings for Chen Jingjing.
When the two meet each other, they're initially taken aback by how much the other has changed. However, as they start to reconnect, they both realize that their bond is still as strong as ever. Chen Jingjing also reunites with her other two friends, and they all catch up on each other's lives.
Wait, My Youth beautifully captures the complexities of life after high school, and how friendships and relationships often evolve over time. It also shows how painful heartbreak can be, and how it can shape a person's entire life.
One of the standout performances in the show is by Yiqin Zhao, who flawlessly portrays the character of Chen Jingjing. She displays a wide range of emotions throughout the show - from sadness and heartbreak to joy and hope - and does so with such authenticity that it's hard not to empathize with her character.
Another standout performance is by Li Junting, who plays Wang Ziyang. He perfectly captures the character's inner conflict between his feelings for Chen Jingjing and his ambition for success. His performance is so nuanced that it's hard not to root for him even when he's making questionable decisions.
Jiaqi Li and Yinghao Liu also deliver strong performances as Liang Xiaoyan and Zhang Wei, respectively. They both bring a sense of warmth and levity to the show, and their characters provide some much-needed comic relief.
The show also features stunning cinematography, with the city of Shanghai serving as the perfect backdrop. The cinematography team does an excellent job of capturing the city's vibrancy and beauty, and it adds an extra layer of depth to the story.
Overall, Wait, My Youth is a must-watch for anyone who enjoys romantic dramas or stories about friendship. It's an emotional rollercoaster that will leave viewers with a renewed appreciation for the people in their lives.
